Opposition to the Rainbow "Eco Park" Grows

March 31, 2009 12:00 AM
Residents protesting outside Eco Park exhibition, including Shas Sheehan.

Concerned residents organised protest against eco park.

Residents gathered in force on Saturday 28 March outside the Worple Road Methodist Church to demonstrate against the waste processing and energy generating plant proposed at the Rainbow Industrial Estate in Raynes Park.

The developer, Workspace Glebe, were showcasing their plans and had invited the public so they could express their views.

Shas Sheehan, Parliamentary Campaigner for the Liberal Democrats said: "This proposal is flawed on both environmental and planning grounds and will condemn residents to live with the local problems it will generate whilst the developer pockets huge profits."

Firstway resident, Giovanna Bernini, organiser of the protest said, "Raynes Park will be permanently blighted if this waste processing facility is given the go-ahead - we must do all we can to stop it."

Watch this space for sample letters to your local councillors and Merton's Planning Department once the planning application is lodged.
