Shas Sheehan investigating the Rainbow industrial estate, proposed site for a new anaerobic digestion plant.
There have been calls for a public meeting following plans to process waste and generate renewable energy on the industrial estate next to Raynes Park Station.
Developers want to build a facility that will use a process known as anaerobic digestion.
Speaking after attending a public exhibition on the plans, Shas Sheehan, Lib Dem Parliamentary candidate for Wimbledon, said:
"Residents have real concerns about things like the number of trucks going into the site; access for vehicles; noise levels; the way it would look; health and Safety issues due to emissions from the plant; smells and the risk of vermin being attracted to the site.
"I feel the developers must hold a public meeting to reassure residents, answer all our questions openly, and get feedback on what independent environmental groups think about the project.
"It is too easy to blind us with science - the proposed system has elements of cutting-edge technology that has not been used in the UK before. This would be a trial, a 'first' in London so more information and reassurances from independent interested parties will be very welcome."
